Our story
A Practice Built Around
Patient Learning
Plai Advisors was founded in Bangkok in 2014 with one purpose: to give adults a clearer reading of the financial topics that matter most after 40.

Plai Advisors began as a response to a practical gap. Many adults in their 40s and 50s in Bangkok hold a basic familiarity with financial terms — they have heard about inflation, about wills, about market risk — but have never had the opportunity to sit with those concepts carefully. Financial services firms tend to address this gap by selling a product. We address it differently.
Our founder, Wiroj Phanthat, spent fifteen years working in financial analysis at a regional bank before leaving to study adult education at Chulalongkorn University. The combination shaped his understanding of what good financial learning looks like for people who are not students by profession — people who are managing households, supporting children or aging parents, and holding assets they have spent decades building.
In 2014 he opened a small seminar room in the Bang Lamphu district of Phra Nakhon. The first programme, an early version of what is now called "Reading What Inflation Is," ran with eight participants. Word spread quietly. By 2017 the practice had developed two further programmes: one on wills and estate documents in Thailand, and one on the long reading of household risk. Today those three programmes remain the core of what Plai Advisors offers.
We have deliberately kept the practice small. Sessions are capped at twelve participants. We do not advertise heavily. We do not maintain a sales team. The people who attend typically come through a recommendation — from a colleague, a sibling, a former participant. That word-of-mouth has been the steady engine of the practice for more than ten years.
"Our work is to offer a careful reading of difficult topics — not to tell people what to decide, but to help them feel less at a loss when the decision comes."
— Wiroj Phanthat, Founder

Our Standards and Commitments
Education Only — No Products
Plai Advisors does not hold a financial adviser's licence and does not seek one. We are an education practice. No investment products, insurance products, or legal documents are sold through our programmes.
Participant Confidentiality
We keep participant lists private. Discussions within sessions are held as confidential. No participant's name, financial situation, or remarks are shared outside the group without consent.
Sourced and Referenced Content
All data presented in sessions is drawn from named, public sources — Bank of Thailand publications, the Stock Exchange of Thailand's historical data, and published academic work. Sources are cited in printed materials.
Annual Content Review
Programme content is reviewed and updated each year to reflect current Bank of Thailand data, any changes in Thai property and succession law, and participant feedback from the previous cohort.
Capped Group Sizes
We do not fill sessions beyond twelve participants. This is a standard we have held since 2014. Smaller groups allow for a thoughtful pace and genuine discussion.
Clear Refund Terms
Cancellations made more than 14 days before a programme start date qualify for a full refund. We publish these terms clearly at the point of enrolment and do not use deposits or non-refundable booking fees.
What Financial Education Looks Like in Practice
The three programmes at Plai Advisors address topics that most adults in Thailand encounter with some frequency but rarely have the time or setting to examine closely. Inflation, for instance, is reported monthly by the Bank of Thailand and discussed in the press, but the figures are rarely broken down in a way that maps onto how a household in Bangkok actually experiences rising costs — in food, in utilities, in health-related expenses.
The programme on inflation is built around that gap. It presents the headline figures, but then spends equal time on what those figures do not capture: the basket composition, the regional variation, the distinction between core and non-core measures. Participants often leave with a more complex picture than they arrived with — which is, we think, appropriate. The goal is not comfort but clarity.
The programme on wills operates in a different register. Thai succession law is not widely understood, particularly among households with property in more than one country or with family members of different nationalities. The workshop does not draft documents — that is the work of a solicitor — but it gives participants the background to arrive at a solicitor's office with more informed questions.
The patient reading on risk is the most extended of the three programmes. Four months of monthly meetings allows for a kind of reflection that a one-day session cannot support. Participants keep their own monthly notes, and the facilitator draws on those notes in subsequent sessions. It is an exercise in reading slowly — in building familiarity with concepts like time horizon, volatility, and long-period market returns through repeated exposure rather than a single dense lecture.
All three programmes are conducted in English and use printed materials produced by the practice. The materials are reviewed and updated annually and are kept by participants after the programme ends.
